WOMEN’S HEALTH WEEK 2025: WHY IT’S TIME TO SAY YES TO YOU

From 1–5 September 2025, Women’s Health Week returns with a powerful message for all women, girls, and gender-diverse people across Australia: “Say yes to you.”

The theme “Say yes to you” is an invitation to reclaim self-care, encouragement, and personal well-being. It urges individuals to speak up, prioritise their health, carve out space for themselves, and not feel guilty about doing so. Whether it’s booking that overdue check-up, trying a new self-care habit, or simply taking a deep breath, saying “yes” to yourself is an incredibly important thing to do.

At Hargan Psychology, we know how easy it is for women to say yes to everything, work demands, family commitments, and social obligations, while putting their own needs last. This year’s theme is a timely reminder that your health, both physical and mental, deserves attention and care. In fact, your well-being is the foundation that supports everything else in life.

Why Women’s Health Week Matters

This national campaign is the biggest week in Australia dedicated to women’s health and wellbeing. Each year, it shines a spotlight on the issues that matter most to women, from heart health to mental health, while encouraging honest conversations, check-ups, and self-care.

And in 2025, it’s all about making yourself a priority, without guilt.

What to Expect This Year

The 2025 campaign will explore a new theme each day, with tips, resources, and conversation starters to help you take charge of your health in practical, meaningful ways.

Here’s a quick look at what each day will cover:

Monday 1 Sept – Every Check Matters:

Whether it’s a pap smear, breast check, or mental health screen, routine check-ups are essential, not optional. Take time to book that appointment you’ve been putting off.

Tuesday 2 Sept – Take the Lead:

Feel more confident managing your healthcare by learning how to prepare for GP or specialist visits. Knowing the right questions to ask can make all the difference.

Wednesday 3 Sept – Heart Smart:

Did you know heart disease is the leading cause of death for Australian women? Learn the signs (they’re different to men’s) and how to reduce your risk.

Thursday 4 Sept – Pain to Power:

If you’ve been told to “just live with it,” this day is for you. Chronic pain isn’t normal, and support is out there.

Friday 5 Sept – Be Kind to Your Mind:

Mental well-being is just as important as physical health. Whether it’s anxiety, burnout, or simply feeling flat, today is about recognising the signs and reaching out.

The Role of Psychology in Women’s Health

Mental health plays a role in every part of a woman’s wellbeing, from energy levels and sleep to relationships and career performance. As psychologists, we often see women who feel overwhelmed, under-supported, or disconnected from themselves.

Women’s Health Week is a chance to slow down and check in with your emotional health. It’s also an opportunity to look into therapeutic supports or revisit goals you’ve put on hold. Therapy isn’t just for crises, it’s also for clarity, resilience, and self-discovery.

This year, make yourself a priority. Your health is not a luxury, it’s a necessity. And saying “yes” to you might just be the most powerful thing you do all year.
